Film Review THE SHED : Hidden Gem Alert and Why You Need to Check Out "The Shed" (2019)!

Happy Tuesday, horror hounds! While I usually dedicate this slot to a classic from the vault, sometimes a film just sticks with you, and you have to talk about it. Today, I wanted to shine a quick spotlight on a horror film I recently watched and genuinely really liked: The Shed (2019).

You might have seen it pop up on streaming services, or maybe heard whispers about it, but if you're like me, you might have overlooked it. Directed by Frank Sabatella, The Shed takes a simple, almost B-movie premise – a teenager discovers a bloodthirsty vampire living in his backyard shed – and elevates it with surprising depth and some genuinely effective horror.

What struck me most about this film was its clever blend of creature feature chills with grounded, often grim, teen drama. It doesn't shy away from the real-world horrors of bullying and abuse that lead character Stan faces, which gives the supernatural elements an extra punch. The performances from the young cast, especially Jay Jay Warren as Stan, are incredibly solid and help you truly invest in their desperate situation.

And let's talk about the creature! The vampire in The Shed is a genuinely nasty, feral beast, and the film delivers on its promise of crimson carnage, especially as the story escalates. It's got that raw, visceral feel that many of us love in a good horror flick, without feeling overly polished or sanitised.

It's got tension, some great practical effects, and a compelling, albeit dark, narrative that pulls you in. If you appreciate horror that's willing to explore grim themes alongside its monsters, and you're looking for a solid, enjoyable watch that might have passed you by, then The Shed is absolutely worth your time this week.

You can find The Shed (2019) streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Shudder (in the UK), or available to rent/buy on various platforms.
